Our first day in Florence was wonderful.....with the exception of the international phone plan I PAID for before I left is not working and cannot be activated. The phone # they texted me to call with my error code cannot be called from Italy!!!

We are all snuggled into our rooms at Hotel Boccaccio......

My little room is  the size of the servants quarters in the old days......about the size of my laundry room at home, but it is cozy and quaint and quite sweet.

My first Italian cappuccino.....

The  ceiling of our little coffee shop.......

A quick visit to the Il Duomo di Firenze, before it started pouring rain....tomorrow we will go back for a slow stroll. Time to tuck into bed with a journal and some watercolors!!:)

A Thought for Today.....

We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.

 Thought for Today....

Don't tell God how big your storm is, tell the storm how big your GOD is.

Author: Anonymous

It has been a tough few weeks here in the Conrad home.Hubby had open heart surgery in December, we both had a couple of health scares after that, one of my son's had shoulder surgery, and now I am sick with what I guess is a version of the flu. Fever , chills, body aches, hoarse....such trivial things in the scheme of things. I have friends who are preparing for the deaths of loved ones, and other such true challenges- and yet, I must admit I am feeling like my little storms are not letting up. Do you ever feel that way? That you no more than get through one thing, and the next challenge is beating down your door????  They are not giant storms- just little ones- but they seem so constant and they wear you down. There is a beautiful song that has been my "Go To" song for the past month. It can be downloaded from itunes, but below is a link to a video of it by the original artist Lauren Daigle.

"Winter Aspens #18" 24"x18"x1.5" Canvas, Original Abstract Aspen Tree Painting by Colorado Contemporary Artist Kimberly Conrad

Kimberly Conrad Contemporary Artist "Pouring Color Into Your Life"

Original Abstract Aspen Tree Painting on 24"x18"x1.5" gallery wrapped canvas.

This is a commission just completed and shipping out today.

The colors are a bit bolder and the trees a bit more distinctive than usual.

I just learned recently from a friend, that Aspen Trees here in Colorado only have a 25 year life span.

This made me really sad, and explains a lot, as we had 8 aspens when we moved into our hose 20 years ago, and 4 have died in the past few years.

The problem is, our house is 34 years old, and those roots are huge and go under our patio, and maybe under our house, so I am not even sure we could plant new ones in the same places..
they were sooo beautiful!!:(

I can't believe we may soon be aspenless!!
