A Thought for Today.....

"Autumn carries more gold in it's pocket than all of the other seasons."

A special series of miniature paintings at gift giving prices, a selected collection on sale for the holiday, Open House, Limited Edition Prints.... the possibilities are endless....but it's time to ACT!!:)

Contemporary Abstract Sunset Landscape Painting "Blazing Sky Reflected VI" by Colorado Contemporary Artist Kimberly Conrad

Kimberly Conrad Contemporary Artist "Pouring Color Into Your Life"

HAPPY FALL!!

I realize I am a few days late....but I have been busy getting my FALL on!!:)

Fall is my very favorite season!!

It symbolizes so many things. It is another official New Beginning, and I love new beginnings!!

For me, it also symbolizes the ever so subtle start of the Holiday Season; I mean when you think about it the first day of winter is December 21st, by then the holiday season is almost over!!

Christmas is my favorite holiday, but the 6 weeks leading up to it is my favorite time!!

On Friday, I put my fall wreath on the door and gave the petunias on my front porch a little company, adding a pumpkin and a couple of pots of mums....not the mums I really love- those were not in yet at my local store, but these will do for now!

On Saturday I made a trip to the Yankee candle store to purchase my 6 month supply of Salted Caramel candles...which I will burn every day until the last Colorado snow has come and gone
( probably April), meaning my winter will flow into what may already be Spring for many of you!!

On Sunday I made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and a big pot of pot roast and vegetable soup!! YUM!!

Leave a comment below and tell me what you love about fall, or what you favorite fall food is, or, email me a photo of your fall decor and I will share it!!:) (kkconrad2@aol.com)

"Fall paints in colors that summer has never seen"

  I think this is beautiful!
This is not my quote, I saw it on Pinterest, but the text with the author's name was too small to   read.

Italian Architecture, Mixed Media Fine Art Painting, "IF WALLS COULD TALK- CORTONA" by International Abstract Artist Kimberly Conrad

The "Walls of Italy" is a brand new series inspired by photos I took of the walls and architecture on my recent trip to Italy, more specifically in the town of  Cortona. This painting also represents the oldest part of town where the outer walls of the buildings were dilapidated- and many years/layers were exposed. These buildings were all occupied, and our guide assured us that the insides had been beautifully renovated, and decorated.

This is the third piece in the series. View the first two HERE

The Closing of one Chapter....The Opening of Another......As Time Marches On!! with Kimberly Conrad

A few weeks ago I shared my new little oil painting studio.....a spare bedroom in my house that I recently took over!!

It is darling and I love having a special space just for oils.

My large poured work is done in my Denver studio that's directly across from my gallery.
It's about 325 square feet and very very messy!! I keep five 6 foot tables up in there to work on.

This studio, below, that I'm sharing today is in my home, where I taught children from surrounding cities for 17 years !

( Be patient...the reveal is at the bottom of this post!!:)

I gave up teaching over two years ago and though I have painted periodically in this studio it was left pretty much the way it was as a classroom, because I paint primarily in my Denver studio

My little school was initially a music school…( music is actually my background-art came later).
We sang and played instruments and performed little productions around the city.

We did 50's shows in poodle skirts ( not the boys of course) and many productions in full costume...we did "Annie" our way, and Broadway Hits,  Disney Favorites, Hip Hop, you name it...we did it!!

We had one very special rest-home we visited each Christmas....I ran across this photo recently...from that rest-home and since my little boys are highlighted- I am guessing my mom or hubby took this shot!! Those 3 little blond babies are now 22, 23 and 24, and the blond one  playing the flute is now almost 28!! Wherever does the time go??

This was an especially sweet time in my life. My sons were 3, 4, 5 and 8 when I first began teaching.
Children came after school for an hour each week; at one time I had seven classes a week- Monday through Thursday, back to back classes 3 of those days with 6-10 students per class.

After a few years, I added art to the program, and we would alternate, doing a 12 week music unit with a production, then I would put away the instruments and bring out the art supplies for a 10 week art unit culminating in an art show, then back to music, and so on.

Memory lane has taken me through albums full of photos the past few days!!

Over time, the art program became more in demand, and as I did not have the space to teach both at once, the music program was eventually phased out and we were studying art exclusively…oh how I missed the angelic sound of little children singing.

So.....I have packed up multiple boxes full of little instruments and costumes....

I may have to keep the bongos in the studio for stress relief!!

Moving on.....so, again,  I got the bug last week to finally pack up kiddy supplies and reclaim it as a grown-up studio.

I have been incredibly motivated lately to get my work spaces more orderly and organizedI!! It must be part of that empty nester thing, though our fourth son left our home over a year ago…..so I guess I'm actually a bit behind!!

I had planned to repaint the walls over the weekend, and the floor next,
but I just could not bring myself to do it quite yet….

You see the floor, though hard to see is sectioned off into different shapes where along with my 4 sons, 46 students came one summer ( many, many years ago- at least 14) and each painted their own little painting, after which we coated the entire floor with polyurethane.
It held up beautifully for many years, but eventually the little feet wore it down…..and of course, there were plenty of spills and paint splatter!! My furry friends don't seem to mid a bit:)

Such sweet memories this room holds……so many darling kiddos of all ages.
I'm still in touch with many of those students…some have gone off to college and a couple even have children of their own!!

These sweet little girls are all either in college now, or have graduated:(

The walls  must be repainted ever so carefully, as there are little sections painted by my sons when they were little that must be edged around and preserved!

Students' handprints still line the wall going down the stairs.

In the midst of the overhaul this past weekend...

So........as one chapter truly closes...another opens......

This space is around 300 square feet.
Until I repaint the walls and floors, I am making do with my overflow of outdoor and basement furniture in my little "pause, gaze at the work and ponder" corner....the doggies love the rug!
I had to hang a print of a photo I took of the main piazza in Cortona on my recent trip to Italy.
I used the waterlogue app to make it look like a painting!!

Pretty things to inspire....

I took down four 6 foot tables, leaving only 2, so I can work on easels and the wall.
This little cart on wheels rolls around the room to whatever spot I am working in.

To the left of the cart is a space large enough to work on a 4 foot canvas on a hook on the wall.

The rubber mats to stand on while painting were a must....after the age of 50, concrete is not your friend!

Need to add one more dog bed!

The old...old...old....T.V. for sappy Hallmark movies on late paint nights during the holidays, or days when the winter weather does not permit me to travel to my Denver studio.

A Table to the right for flat work.

To the right of table 2 is space for a 4 foot wide canvas- I will put a large hook on the wall here , another easel would take up too much room.

And THAT, my friends concludes my little show and tell!!:)
Thank you for sharing this little transition with me!

I feel so very blessed to now have three separate working studios...

Now.....Let's see if I can produce three times the work!!!!!

A Thought for Today......

"Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, and the golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a self-starter. Let your FIRST hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.

Og Mandino

I love this. I truly consider the very first hour I am awake to be my Golden Hour. What I do in that first hour really does set the tone for my day, whether it be 5:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m., whether I am home, or on the road for business or pleasure.

I start my day with a few minutes of deep breathing,  prayers of thankfulness that I have been given the gift of another day on this earth, and then a long list of things I am thankful for, from the big things like health and life, to the smaller things like the fact that all of my sons have good jobs and safe, reliable cars to drive.

(Yes, I truly give thanks for the cars, we live in Colorado, and in winter there are always those stranded on the side of the road in freezing temperatures)

I try to do this before my feet hit the floor, but sometimes my furry friends do not allow me that luxury, as I wake to one of them scratching to get out the door and down the stairs to do their morning job! In this case, I start again, in my big leather chair in the breakfast nook, surrounded by those same little furry friends.

I follow this with a short time of meditation, and reflection on the day to come, then a bit of time reading something that feeds my soul, inspires my heart. Sometimes I linger here, other times it may be just a paragraph.

THEN....what has been truly life giving to me....a time of verbal affirmations.

I have notebooks full of sentences, quotes and verses I have written down over the years, that speak life, love, joy, peace, inspiration and success to me in all areas of my life.....self love, relationships, business, my mission on this planet....

The practice of saying these things OUT LOUD ( not just thinking them) changed my life.

There's a very distinct difference in the days that begin this way, and the days that do not....so I have learned to be diligent in this practice.

Regardless of starting this way...there are of course those days when the stink still just hits the fan, and I find myself having to find a corner, and repeat a mini version of this morning practice, or at least some part of it.... I call this a RESET.

Some days require multiple resets, but that is one of the beautiful things about this wondrous life, every minute is a NEW beginning.......we can RESET as many times a day as we need to!!

Today I thought I would share some photos of my new little Oil Painting Studio!!

I have a studio in Denver across from my gallery where I do my "poured" work, and a large studio in the basement of my home where I do large palette knife and mixed media pieces.
I taught kiddos from that studio for seventeen years!!

( I booted those sweet kiddos out 2 years ago!)

Recently I took over one of my spare bedrooms to use as a dedicated studio for oils.

(the joys of being an empty nester- 5 bedrooms to make use of!!)

Yes, I feel like the luckiest of girls to have three separate dedicated painting spaces!!

About a year ago, my heart strings were being pulled back into oil painting.

I actually began my painting journey as an oil painter, but quickly moved into mixed media and pouring.

In July I signed up for Nancy Medina's e-course, to escort me back into oil painting, and give me a more solid foundation.

Though I am way behind in actually completing the modules ( no worries, I have them for an entire year!) I am having a blast. I have actually watched every video multiple times, to keep myself inspired until I can get back to it.

Right now I am busy with poured and mixed media pieces for two upcoming shows.

Nancy is an AMAZING teacher, and the quality of this class is unlike and I have seen to date.
The videography if FABULOUS!!

Nancy is incredibly generous with her info, holding nothing back, from her exact brushes and closeups of her brushstrokes, to the sharing of her palette.

She will be launching a new e-course soon!

Check her out at http://www.nancymedina.com

So...below are a few photos of my special new place, complete with a Nancy Medina painting on the wall for inspiration:) This is my current "Happy Room" in the house.

Even if I don't have time to paint, sometimes I just sit in there with a book for a few minutes and inhale deeply--YES... I LOVE the smell of oil paint!

I Love my blue glass jar from Home Goods as a trash can!

A Closer Look

A Broader Look- I HATE cords showing - ugh but no way to hide them
Yes there's a bed for my furry babies....they are never far away from Mommy!
I love my mirrored table for my palette, I borrowed this idea from artist Dreama Tolle Perry, another amazing oil painter I am itching to study with, who just launched her new e-course! http://dreamatolleperry.com

A little slice of Nancy Medina inspiration!

Thanks for letting me share!!
Be Inspired:)
